John Alden and Priscilla Mullins were passengers on the Mayflower together in 1620. They married in Plymouth in 1621 and settled in Duxbury.
According to the 1858 poem The Courtship of Miles Standish, written by Alden descendant Henry Wadsworth-Longfellow, John and Priscilla were part of a love triangle involving the colony’s military advisor. The love triangle ended after Priscilla asked John, who was courting her on his friend’s behalf, “Why don’t you speak for yourself, John?”
John and Priscilla went on to have 10 children together, and their descendants comprise one of the largest groups of Mayflower descendants living today.
Priscilla is approximately 2″ tall and John is approximately 2 1/2″ tall.
