The Mayflower Society provides education about the Pilgrims, their contributions and what their 1620 voyage means today.  As the preeminent authority on the legacy of the Pilgrims, The Mayflower Society plays a crucial role when it comes to increasing public awareness of the importance of the Pilgrims’ lives and legacies, as well as maintaining the highest standards possible for genealogy research into the lineage of the Mayflower Pilgrims.

Job/Position Title: Director of Genealogy & Research Services (DGRS)

Reports to: Executive Director                      Full Time Position: Management 

Position Overview:

The Director of Genealogy and Research Services (“DGRS”) is a senior management position in the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. The DGRS leads the genealogy library team in the application and verification process. The DGRS is responsible for collaborating with Member Society Historians. This position reports to the Executive Director on administrative matters and to the Historian General regarding genealogy policy for the Society.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Directs the preliminary and verification process of lineage applications;
  • Analyzes and recommends process efficiencies without sacrificing quality;
  • Responsible for staff and contractor training, coaching, development and schedules;
  • Works to meet financial objectives by managing the department budget throughout the year;
  • Maintains regular and productive communication with Society Historians. Responsible for on-going genealogy training, which includes videos, tutorials and a Historians Policy and Procedure Manual;
  • Coordinates with Silver Books Project Director and DNA Project Chair on research;  
  • Implements an on-going plan for records retention including the digitization of application files and documents in accordance with GSMD record-keeping policies;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Historian General.

 Qualifications & Skills:

  • B.A. Degree with demonstrated experience in management;
  • Understanding of advanced genealogical methods;
  • Skilled in various computer programs including business and genealogy software;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;

Job / Position Title:  Facilities Manager     

Reports to:    Governor General                Full-time Position: Management

Position Overview:

Responsible for day-to-day maintenance and operations of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants facilities and grounds located at Plymouth, MA. Facilities include the historic 1754 Mayflower Society House, a research library, and an administration building. The Facility Manager will coordinate and oversee all interior, exterior, safety, cleaning and landscaping work.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Management of the property. Supervise day to day facility business.
  • Prepares and maintains a calendar of general maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and inspections.
  • Distinguish routine repairs on modern materials from the different materials and techniques that may be required for repair of the historic Mayflower House.
  • Monitors the safety and cleanliness of the interior and exterior areas.
  • Maintains and prepares the grounds and facilities for changing weather conditions.
  • Performs maintenance and general repairs as needed.
  • Schedules and directs inspections of systems operations in each building. 
  • Responds to emergency repairs as needed.
  • Review and oversight of the security systems, including collaborating with the security system vendors.
  • Coordinates with workers, tradesmen, and others to schedule tasks required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Governor General.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Ability to research problems, demonstrates problem solving techniques. 
  • Advanced mechanical and technical skills and knowledge of plumbing, HVAC and other building systems.
  • Proficiency with repair tools and techniques.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Computer ability including the use of WORD, EXCEL, and email capabilities.
  • Time management skills and ability to adjust to flexible schedule.
  • Previous experience required.

Job / Position Title: Sales Associate

Reports to:    Membership and Sales Manager                Full-time Position: 40 hours

Position Overview:

The Sales Associate is critical to the promotion of the Mayflower Society’s branding and outreach.The position interacts with our international membership of over 31,000. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Upholds, monitors and honors the General Society’s mission and brand.
  • Prepares and packages orders for mailing.
  • Responds to phone and email inquiries about products.
  • Assists in entering products, pricing and descriptions for the Mayflower Society online shop.
  • Monitors inventory.
  • Assists in ordering supplies.
  • And other duties as assigned by the Membership and Sales Manager.

Qualifications & Skills:

The ideal candidate should have at least two years of prior experience working in a sales or clerical position.  A background or knowledge of the Mayflower passengers and Plymouth would be a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills: attention to detail is of importance.
  • Ability to multi-task multiple projects.
  • Computer proficiency including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Gmail, and Excel.
  • Experience with Square and QuickBooks a plus.
