Research Center Director
Reports to: Executive Director
Full Time Position: Management
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The General Society of Mayflower Descendants is seeking a Research Center Director to oversee its Research Center and staff. The Research Center Director, a member of senior management, leads the genealogy team in the application and verification process, and oversees all research functions. The Research Center Director is responsible for collaborating with Member Society Historians. This position reports to the Executive Director.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions):
- Manage and develop large staff
- Directs the preliminary and verification process of lineage applications;
- Oversees and directs research functions
- Analyzes and recommends process efficiencies without sacrificing quality;
- Responsible for staff and contractor training, coaching, development and schedules;
- Manage the annual department budget
- Maintains regular and productive communication with Society Historians.
- Create, edit and facilitate on-going programs for genealogy training (including videos, tutorials and the Historian’s Manual);
- Coordinates with the Historian General on lineage and genealogy questions.
- Coordinates with Silver Books Project Director and DNA Project Chair on research.
- Implements an on-going plan for records retention,
- Digitization of application files and documents in accordance with GSMD recordkeeping policies;
- Hire, recruit and manage Research Center staff
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
Required
- M.A. Degree with demonstrated experience in management;
- Demonstrated experience in managing a team with technically varied backgrounds
- Understanding of advanced genealogical methods recommended but not required;
- Skilled in various computer programs including business and genealogy software;
- Strong interpersonal, writing, communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations and communicating with a Board of Directors

Staff Accountant
Reports to: Director of Finance
weekly hours: 24-28
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Performs a wide range of accounting tasks to support the Director of Finance. Creates, updates and maintains Excel spreadsheets, ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions. Inputs financial transactions into various software programs. Assists with special projects as needed.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions):
- Assist with month-end close process including but not limited to creating/posting journal entries and maintaining reconciliations for balance sheet accounts
- Create, update, and maintain various Excel spreadsheets (i.e. prepaids, payroll, fixed assets, etc.)
- Process invoices and assist with weekly check run process
- Enter financial transactions into various software programs
- Prepare bank deposits
- Assist with month-end reconciliations of sales and bank accounts
- Investigate and resolve variances
- Provide assistance with processing bi-weekly payroll (process time sheets and enter data into payroll software)
- Compile reports/data for month-end close, fiscal year-end audit, annual budget, and miscellaneous projects that arise
- Other duties as needed or required
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
REQUIRED: Proficient in Excel. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Positive, professional attitude; an ability to work individually and as part of a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. The ability to take & learn from direction. The ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
PREFERRED: Experience with QuickBooks a plus.
