Position Title: IT Technical Specialist & Webmaster
Reports to: Executive Director
Date of Posting: September 21, 2022 Full Time Position

Position Overview
The IT Technical Specialist & Webmaster oversees and supports the Society’s expanding technology requirements. The ideal candidate will be at the center of a fast-paced and evolving technology environment and will have both the skill set and business acumen to work in a lineage society, non-profit environment. Working alongside the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD) Technology Committee and a local IT support team, this position will drive and oversee key technology projects that will define the organization’s future operating model and provide technological advances and efficiencies to assist GSMD staff and our 54 Member Societies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Webmaster
  • Interfacing with the web development team;
  • Responsible for user access;
  • Monitoring website usage and optimization;
  • Updating web pages;
  • Archiving outdated content;
  • Oversight of software, plug-ins, and licensing renewals management

In-house Technology Management

  • Interfacing with GSMD staff, committees and our local IT support team (Tech Collective), and providing first-touch technical support;
  • Maintaining equipment and software inventory and scheduling updates;
  • Responsible for user access and passwords;
  • Responsible for Wi-Fi capacity;
  • Responsible for the GSMD server, including organization and access permissions;
  • Creating and maintaining a repository for photo and video assets;
  • Coordinating testing efforts of new/updated software and products;
  • Responsible for technology budget and providing input in annual budgeting process

Technology Projects Management

  • Responsible for genealogical technology (with the Library and Genealogy department);
  • Migrating the server to cloud-based service;
  • Preparing a business case for a new Membership system and managing that transition;
  • Assisting with scholarship application automation;
  • Assisting with lineage application automation;
  • Additional technology duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications & Skills:
REQUIRED: 3-5 years’ experience in business and information technology

  • Experience with technology software, including WordPress, Microsoft Suite, Dropbox and Google
  • Knowledge of IT security
  • Familiarity with server oversight and cloud services
  • Experience with ADA compliance standards
  • Effective project oversight skills
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Pro-active demeanor, flexible and good ability to work with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to think holistically and help plan for future needs

Founded in 1897, The Mayflower Society, or General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD), is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization with international headquarters in Plymouth, Massachusetts and is comprised of 54 Member Societies worldwide.
